On Thursday, October 16, 2008, Gene Popkie and Beau Westover from Cherry-Todd visited Cody-Kilgore Jr. and Sr. High School students and presented an electrical safety demonstration.
They brought a collapsible display board. This demonstration illustrated the importance of safety around electricity as we watched a tree branch scorch from a power line along with a light-up toy man and a fake bird dying from the electric current.
Cody-Kilgore students were even informed about what to do when in a car accident involving a downed electrical pole. The demonstration was eye opening and interesting to the student body.
The Cody-Kilgore FFA Chapter applied for and received a Governors Agriculture Excellence Award.
This is sponsored by Nebraska Investment Finance Authority (NIFA). This grant award is $1000. Currently we are in the process of purchasing a commercial dehydrator, a vacuum packaging machine, and a meat mixer so our FFA Chapter and Food Science Class can make and sell our own beef jerky and fruit snacks.
This grant will allow students to gain experience in processing, packaging, labeling, and selling food products. Our beef jerky will be available to purchase during our annual fruit sales beginning November 14th. We would appreciate your support.
